From the flavoured waters, to the carefully selected artworks and the fancy hand soap – it’s the finer details that let you know a lot of love has been poured into Little Bird, Dublin’s first Yoga Cafe.

A further indicator might be that manager, Cormac, responded to an ad for someone with “a good head and a good heart” to run the food and beverage side of the business. Or maybe it’s the compostable packaging or the regular events in support of the 20/20, a charity helping coffee growers.

As a former architect, owner Eileen favours Scandinavian design and it’s generous use of lighting, for the cafe as well as the yoga studio. There’s a old Bavarian beer table and the parquet floor is from an English boarding school. Outside, herbs for the kitchen grow under a large “Yoga for Coffee Lovers” billboard. The building was once a pet shop, but now yoga and pilates classes run 7 days a week in back room where the ‘little birds’ were kept.

The handmade paper menus list a range of healthy meals, with mostly organic ingredients from local producers. You might notice a few South American twists (the chef is Venezuelan). Scones are a best seller and normally sell out by lunch time. Wall and Keogh do the tea, but Barry’s is available too. Coffee is Badger and Dodo.
