As Dublin’s Central Bank undergoes a €75m makeover to become ‘Central Plaza’, something exciting is brewing just beyond the building works. Today sees a welcome addition to the growing list of places to get a decent coffee in town: a spin-off of the hugely popular Two Pups Coffee.

Head Barista Dominik ‘Dom’ Mielech has decided the time is right to fly the nest and set up his own enterprise, under close mentorship from former boss, Kevin Douglas “Kev has been so helpful with business advice and with selecting the right equipment, he says.

‘Vagabond Coffee’ will occupy a section of Bedford Stuy Barbers, on the corner of Cope and Fownes Street, in Temple Bar.“I started travelling when I was 19 and spent years backpacking around Europe before settling in Ireland, so I feel a bit like a Vagabond.” Dominik says about the name choice.

Dom learned his coffee h skills on a 3FE course, when he arrived from Poland 3 years ago and quickly landed himself a job with Coffee Angel and most recently Two Pups.

In similar style, Two Pups also started out occupying a small corner of a retail (clothing) shop but has since expanded. Both venues use Square Mile Coffee, and feature guest roasters. Co-owner of the London based supplier is former World Barista Champion and author of the World Atlas of Coffee, James Hoffman.

In addition to coffee, Vagabond currently sells homemade healthy cakes, smoothies, juices and teas from Wall and Keogh. There are plans to sell a selection of sandwiches and to showcase guest coffee roasters in the not-to-distant future.
