After a string of international and Irish coffee championship title wins, Ukranian Ruslan Mocharskyy, a former music teacher, opened a cafe in Grand Canal Dock. It remains the flagship of six ‘The Art of Coffee’ outlets across Dublin.
Each store has a slightly different décor and feel. However, they are all in similar high-footfall areas, serving mainly office workers who value quick service and reliability for morning coffee and afternoon lunch.
The coffee beans are commissioned from Belfast-based Bailies Coffee, who also roast for serval other Dublin coffee shops. Fellow Ukrainian Olga Kovalchyuk is the designer-in-chief for the group, and Eleanor Walsh (remember Eden or Cafe Bar Deli?) is the Executive Chef. Cakes and pasties are sourced from a host of small-scale bakeries.
This Art of Coffee branch is located in The Watermarque Building – the middle ground between old Dublin (Ringsend) and new Dublin (Grand Canal Dock). The modern development backs onto a greyhound stadium, Shelbourne Park, and is home to four big companies – Pfizer, Belfair, Lawrence Re and Airbnb. The kiosk doesn’t serve hot food, instead focusing on coffee and tasty snacks.
