Two Kevin Byrnes opened the Mayfield in 2010 – one a former head chef at Canal Bank Cafe, the other a manager of an Avoca Cafe. It has become popular with all age groups, from millennials sipping Prosecco cocktails with brunch, to Grandparents enjoying a chat over afternoon tea and cake.

The no-fuss menu has popular Irish and international dishes, with big portions offering good value. Try the ‘Mayfield Breakfast Hash’ with ham, black pudding, red onion, potato, poached eggs, hollandaise & toast. Also popular is the ‘Tarragon Chicken Mayo’ sandwich.
There’s a range of quirky dining areas including The flamingo-wallpapered ‘Yellow Bird’ room. Here, the Kevins hold ‘Dinner & Show’ events, and private functions. Furniture and trinkets have been collected from charity shops, with the help of customers. Interior designer Ursula Herbert, who has a retail outlet in the Mayfield, also helped with the kit-out.
You’ll ‘exit through the gift shop’, which sells scarves, housewares, cards and Irish fragrance products. Outside there’s spacious outdoor terrace, that catches the sun all day – perfect for an iced tea with Earl Grey, brown sugar & mint.
